Vermont Agency of Transportation 2013 Fact Book | Document
VTrans Fact Book. Tropical Storm Irene did much to set the stage for what has been one of the busiest years in the history of the Agency of Transportation. Our response to the storm and our examination of that response has led to innovations in the field and the back office that will shape us for years to come, making us a stronger organization.

Kentucky's Long-Range Statewide Transportation Plan | Plan
This plan defines two sets of goals, project goals and process goals, which combine to form the framework for Kentucky's transportation investment decisions through 2035. The plan provides descriptions of the state's demographic trends, current transportation system, future vision, and finally the application performance-based planning to support the framework.
Strategic Issues Facing Transportation: Volume 2: Climate Change, Extreme Weather Events and the Highway System | Research Report
This guide to mitigating risk from climate change across the US highway system contains strategies to deal with the necessary changes infrastructure will need to combat climate change. Dealing with climate change through 2050 and sea level rise through 2100, the guide gives recommendations for all types of assets, including bridges, culverts, pavement, slopes, stormwater infrastructure, and walls. There is also a software tool that provides information based on region, tables with the same information as the software tool, and two spreadsheets of cost-benefit analyses of various adoption strategies.
Measuring Performance among State DOTs: Sharing Good Practices -- Serious Crash Injury | Research Report
The objectives of this project were to (a) review and assess states’ current practices for quantifying serious injuries from motor vehicle crashes, (b) describe issues to be addressed in adapting CODES or other available databases to provide a basis for comparative analysis of DOT performance regarding serious crash injuries and safety management, and (c) describe feasible options for addressing these issues and assess their relative merits. Research is complete, and the final report is available for download on the TRB website.
The Delivery Hub health, safety and environment Raising the bar 21 | Presentation, Research Report
The objective of this “Raising the Bar” document is to highlight some of the lean tools and techniques, which demonstrate a positive impact on Health, Safety and Well-being.
Summary of Results from CDOT Improvements | Research Report
This webpage provides two summaries of results from Colorado DOT's improvement efforts in 2013.
Performance-Based Planning and Programming Guidebook | Guide/Manual, Research Report
Bridge, Freight, Pavement, Safety, System PerformancePerformance-based planning and programming (PBPP) refers to the application of performance management principles within the planning and programming processes of transportation agencies to achieve desired performance outcomes for the multimodal transportation system. The Guidebook has been designed to help State DOTs, MPOs, RTPOs, transit agencies, and other partner organizations understand: the key elements of a PBPP process and the relationship of these elements within existing planning and programming processes. The Guidebook is designed to highlight effective practices to help transportation agencies in moving toward a performance-based approach to planning and programming.
Developing Hybrid Measures of Performance for Signalized Intersections | Research Report
System PerformanceThere are two generally accepted methods for evaluating performance of intersections in Delaware - a volume based measure using the critical movement summary method and a delay based method, most commonly done using simulation software like Synchro. Each provides unique indicators of the intersections "health", just like a patient with two vital signs. And in general, they are used separately. This research proposes to provide a new, hybrid measure of intersection performance using the two level of service (LOS) measures together.
Calibration of Controlling Input Models for Pavement Management System, Final Report | Research Report
This study examines pavement management models using data from the Oklahoma DOT. Using 16 years of data collected with the Deighton Total Infrastructure Management System (dTIMS), the current models for predicting pavement deterioration are examined, compared, and, if necessary, recalibrated using the real-world data. The study contains a spreadsheet-based tool for managing pavement which could be of interest to anyone looking to either implement a similar tool, or justify the expense of detailed pavement monitoring data.
