This presentation outlines the progress that has been made on the development of an investment planning tool for Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) assets. This tool will help agencies understand their future investment needs while providing customization based upon agency preferences. The system will give annual costs, 10 year investment levels, and annual investments.

This presentation focuses on the management of geotechnical transportation assets including retaining walls, slopes, embankments, and subgrades. It outlines the MAP-21/FAST requirements for these types of assets and the biggest risks posed to them and their consequences. It concludes with a risk cube visualization exercise to understand a method for multi-objective risk management and evaluation.

The objective of this project is to update FHWA's existing performance reporting template and prototype to align with OST web standards. The project also expands the performance reporting website to include Federal Transit Administration (FTA) performance data from existing data sources, such as the National Transit Database (NTD), and integrates FHWA's assessing significant progress determination towards achieving the performance targets for the National Highway Performance Program (NHPP) and the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP).

This article examines how state DOTs can achieve a working priority scheme for the maintenance of their highway and road infrastructure. It describes how the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) balances its highway maintenance obligations through various transfers to local governments as well as other negotiations. Researchers in GDOT’s Office of Transportation Data (OTD) sought to develop a highway prioritization system by creating the criteria to determine which routes would have higher or lower priority. The OTD developed criteria by holding meetings with GDOT officials for input, determining what data was available, and examining the existing maps and data. They ultimately categorized state routes into four priority levels–Critical, High, Medium, and Low–each of which contains a number of road types (e.g. Critical state routes include interstates, intermodal connectors, and national/state freight corridors).

This primer provides an introduction and background to shared mobility; discusses the government’s role; reviews success stories; examines challenges, lessons learned, and proposed solutions; and concludes with guiding principles for public agencies. The primer provides an overview of current practices in this emerging field, and it also looks toward the future in the evolution and development of shared mobility.

This research project explored the utilization of GDOT’s existing videolog and pavement imaging data for extracting guardrails, rumble strips, and traffic signs. Image-processing-based algorithms were developed, which were tested using both GDOT’s videolog images and the data collected by using the Georgia Tech Sensing Vehicle (GTSV).
